First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church in Norfolk was founded December 29, 1889. First Baptist has seen many changes throughout the years, but their mission to express God’s redeeming love to the community and bringing the message of Christ has remained the same.
Pastor Robin Stoops says, “People everywhere are looking for a warm and accepting place, full of life and purpose, where there is a sense of family and belonging. A place to find practical advice for everyday living. Our church is that kind of place. I invite you to get to know us. It can be very exciting around here–something is always happening at every age. Come and join us! We would love to get to know you.”
First Baptist offers children’s Sunday school classes, Vacation Bible School, AWANA, and a weekly children’s message in the Sunday worship service. Pre-School Open Gym is held on Wednesdays at 10:00am.
Family ministries are at the core of First Baptist. Many of the weekly programs allow families to stay together for activities in a cross-generational setting.
Baptist Youth Fellowship is First Baptist’s youth group. The youth get to take part in camps and conferences throughout the year. The group also collects food for the food pantry and cooks a meal to share with the Norfolk Rescue Mission. Baptist Youth Fellowship meets on Wednesday evening at 6:30pm.
Men’s and Women’s Ministries are also offered at First Baptist. American Baptist Men meet for breakfast the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month at 8:00am. American Baptist Women host outreach events as well as fund camp scholarships. An adult Bible study for both men and women is held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm.
Sunday school for all ages is held on Sunday mornings at 9:00am, followed by the Sunday morning worship service at 10:30am. Prayer followed by a Bible study is held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm.
